DIABETIC THERAPEUTIC SHOES

The Diabetic Therapeutic Shoe Policy enables diabetic patients to acquire the specialized footwear they need with partial payment by Medicare. Each calendar year Medicare will reimburse up to 80% of the Medicare allowance for one pair of depth shoes and three pairs of diabetic inserts. Supplemental insurance will usually pay the other 20%. These benefits may each year provide you depth shoes and diabetic inserts at no out of pocket cost to the patient.

MEDICARE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be diabetic.
  • Must be Medicare recipients.
  • Must have prescription for "depth shoes" or "depth shoes and diabetic inserts" from MD, DO or DPM.
  • Must have Certifying Physician's Support Statement signed by physician treating patient's diabetic condition. Certifying physician must be an MD or DO.
